Matt and Sue held their special custom wedding on the lush green lawn bordering the Atlantic oceanfront of Chatham's Wequassett Inn. The day was a little on the chilly side, but all was still beautiful
as this lovely couple cuddled up together at our natural outdoor altar where I delivered their ceremony.
The two flower girls were so cute as they prepared to empty their baskets of petals in preparation for the bride's entrance with her dad. Chuckles could be heard from family and friends as we realized that the younger of the two flower girls was mesmerized by the spot where they stood, dropping most of her petals in circles under a flowering tree. It was almost as if she decided that the petals belonged under the tree filled with white blooms! The older of the two flower girls felt torn, but then, most decidedly proceeded toward us in completing her role, every once in a while, turning slightly and beckoning her fellow flower girl to follow. The little one stayed, preferring to share the white petals with the lawn under this tree. If we could only know of her thoughts as she oh so delicately laid each petal on the lawn, reassuringly placing the flowers gently such that all would be fine. This was one of those sacred moments one does not plan - a true flower girl with a purpose.
The bride and father then appeared, she smiling and brimming with happiness. Her mother and father both stood at the altar where I stood, confirming their support for Sue and Matt's marriage.
Matt and Sue were so happy, despite the unseasonably cold day. There were special vows spoken between them, and a sand ceremony symbolizing the combining of their two histories into one. The bridesmaids stood to Sue's left, huddled together to keep themselves warm, while the groomsmen were a little more grateful for their jackets. Overall, it was a lovely wedding on the lawn of the Wequassett Inn. There was laughter and tears, readings and rings exchanged.
And finally, with much celebration, all applauded Matt and Sue as I introduced them for the first time as "husband and wife". She raised her flowers in the air, and he showed the most triumphant expression, and together, they processed, walking amongst the white petals and up the manicured hill to stand under the whispering flowering trees.
Congratulations Matt and Sue!
